Despite being made on a very short budget of about 27 crores , Emraan Hashmi starrer failed to perform at the box office with just 6.80 crores coming into the pockets in 3 days . So what went wrong ? Just the title 'Why Cheat India' (Its really frustrating) cant be considered the only reason for its failure . Lets analyze !!

Here , we will not be considering the basic reason why the movie failed like story , script , screenplay etc. Thats known to everyone . So , there is no point discussing those .

We will be discussing the OTHER REASONS which were responsible for the failure of the movie .

1. CASTING

Casting of the movie is totally wrong . Not saying that the actors didn't act well in the movie . But the subject of the movie had the potential to attract only multiplex audience while Emraan Hashmi is a single screen hero . Makers should have added some Emraan Hashmi "elements" (Remember 'Piya More' from Baadshaho , the Sunny Leonne song .. thats exactly what I mean by "Emraan Hashmi elements" ) in the movie that could have attracted single screen audience which otherwise wasn't interested at all in the subject of this movie .

Thus , movie wasn't accepted neither by multiplex audeince nor single screen audience .

Seeing Emraan's lack of power to attract audience , makers should have added a familiar face as an actress instead of a debutante , Shreya Dhanwanthary. This could have given a boost to the movie .

2. NAME

Movies name was changed twice before the release . Firstly , the tag line Nakl mein hi akal hai was removed on the objection of CBFC . Later , name Cheat India was changed to Why Cheat India . This must have impacted movie's awareness amongst the audience . ( See the different in two different posters below )

3. RELEASE DATE

Lastly, the release date of the movie was changed at the last moment from 25 January to 18 January. This again resulted in lack of awareness among the audience about the movie . Had the movie been released on 25 January (Republic Day Weekend) , movie would have definitely got a bigger audience and the audience word of mouth could have changed the fate of the movie . 4. #METOO (ITS EVERYWHERE)

The Director of the movie Soumik Sen had metoo allegations against him because of which he was kept away from the promotional campaign of the film . Though , this reason is not a big one but it can be considered now since the movie has failed at the box office.

CONCLUSION

All said and done. It's a lesson for the makers of the film and should try not to commit such mistakes again.
