The answer to all of this is PIRACY . Yes , Piracy is behind all of this . Because of not so stringent anti-piracy laws in India , people are able to watch movies online in Blu-Ray , DVD prints without even paying for it . That's why the revenue from sale of DVD/Blu-ray is very poor for bollywood film producers as compared to Hollywood (where even before the release of the movie in theaters , the DVD/Blu-ray release dates are already announced) . This in a way is a great opportunity for both the streaming sites and the producers . Confused ? Lets clear this . 

• Streaming sites - Streaming sites add a extra clause in their agreement while purchasing the Digital rights of the movie that no DVD/Blu-Ray of the given movie will be released . This gives the streaming sites a monopoly . Yes . Now if a person wants to watch the same movie (once it is out of theaters) , either he can watch it on TV or online . But who can bear those ads on TV ? Moreover , TV premieres are generally held after Digital Premieres . So , the only option one is left with is subscribe to streaming sites and watch the movie . Thus , online streaming sites benefits with no DVD/Blu-Ray release . 

• Producer's Benefit - The extra amount which the producer gets by signing the no DVD release contract is far better than the revenues out of sale of DVD/Blu-Rays . Thus , he benefits .
